This is my second Philco radio I bought off Craigslist, I like their classic design and the size of them allows for multiple setups. Here's what it looked like when i purchased it: ![]() The radio was not without its flaws. There were a few holes in the vineer, which needed to be patched up and made smooth and undetectable by anyone. I sanded down the veneer, and then brushed on some high gloss Minwax all in 1 stain and polyurethane. I then went down to my local fabric store and bought the speaker cover fabric. ![]() ![]() |
This is what the Philco currently looks like: ![]() Biography on the 1940 Philco Model 40-185: used eight tubes and a large (12") speaker, and received AM, the "police" band (1.55 to 3.4 mc) and shortwave from 6 to 18 mc. Original selling price: $79.95 Number made: 21,518 Once the body was in perfect condition, I added all the good stuff. The brain of the unit is an Alpine car radio, with CD, MP3 capabilities, along with an iPod hookup (the unit is from 2009, so newest iPods are not compatible) There are 2 kenwood 6x9 speakers, and 2 Scosche 6.5 inch speakers. ![]() |
